Short version: I collect what I need to quote and plow your laneway, I don't sell it or share it beyond what's described below, and you can ask me to delete it at any time.
Last updated October 12, 2026. Cedar Rail Snow Co. / 2252997 Ontario Inc. is an Ontario company. Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to how I handle your information.
What I collect
When you ask for a quote I collect your name, phone number, email address, the property address, details about the laneway (length, surface, hazards, where snow goes), your plan preference, how you heard about me, and any notes you add. During the season I may add a gate code, a backup contact, and before-and-after photos of your laneway for my records. The website itself collects nothing: no analytics, no advertising cookies.
Why
To measure and quote the laneway, to book the walkthrough, to write the agreement, to plow and invoice, and to let you know about your laneway during a storm. If you tick the box on the quote form, I may also contact you about this winter's service by text, call or email. You can withdraw that at any time by replying "stop" or "unsubscribe".
Where it's kept and who sees it
Quote requests arrive in a Google Sheet and my email, or through a form-delivery service, and those run on servers that may be outside Canada and are subject to the laws there. Only I have access. Invoices and card payments are handled by service providers (Stripe for card payments). They hold your name, email, what you were billed and, if you pay by card, your card details; I never see or store your card number. They may keep that information outside Canada. I don't sell, rent or share your information with anyone else, except with a back-up operator who needs it to plow your laneway, with my insurer or legal adviser if there's a claim, where the law requires it, or where it's needed to collect an unpaid account.
How long
If I don't end up plowing for you, I delete your quote request after the season ends. If I do, I keep the agreement, invoices and payment records for six years from the end of the tax year, as the Canada Revenue Agency requires. Visit logs and laneway photos are kept for three years after the season, in case of an insurance or legal claim. The rest is deleted within a year of our last season together.
Your choices
Email or text me to see what I hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. I'll respond within 30 days. If you think I've handled your information badly, tell me first; you can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
The website
The quote form saves a draft in your own browser so you don't lose it if you leave the page; nothing is sent until you press send. The snow-watch forecast is fetched from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute's public service, which sees the request like any website visit. There are no tracking scripts.
Emails from me
If you receive an email from Cedar Rail Snow Co., it's because you asked for a quote, you're a customer, or I've plowed for you before. Every one identifies me and tells you how to stop them. Unsubscribe requests are handled within ten business days, usually the same day.
